Illinois Democrats got just about everything that they wanted in the spring session. But one central Illinois lawmaker says there is certainly more to come.
Democrats in Springfield delivered on almost every campaign promise this past spring. Higher minimum wage? Check. Progressive income tax? Check. Legal marijuana? Check.
So what could they possibly want next year and the year after that? Republican State Senator Jason Barickman says a lot.
"I think we'll see more on abortion. Removing some of the parental notification for minor girls who get an abortion. I think you'll see social issue like that," Barickman explained Thursday. "I think you're going to see things like, the city of Chicago has its own self-created pension crisis. They now look at J.B Pritzker and say 'Please help,'."
Barickman says he also expects more taxing, more spending, and more borrowing.
"I think the governor will work with his progressive, liberal Democratic majority and he will outline a very aggressive agenda next year that again will line up far outside the mainstream."
He also said because Democrats have total control of state government, there's little that Republicans can do to stop it.
