Beating death in Watseka likely brings new charges

A Chebanse man beaten outside a Watseka tavern has died of injuries. 55-year-old Gary Guenette suffered severe head injuries Monday night. He had been in critical condition at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Guenette's death finds the Iroquois County State's Attorney's office reviewing the case, likely upgrading charges against 21-year-old Gregory Eisermann of Watseka. He was jailed in Watseka on a $100,000 bond. He was charged initially with aggravated battery and possession of a controlled substance.

Watseka Police reported it was an altercation outside a bar that led to Guenette's injury and the arrest of Eisermann.

The Knapp Funeral Home at Clifton is handling arrangements for Guenette.
