Wrong-Way Driver Crash Results in Double Fatality on I-65
A 21-year-old Beaverville woman died, along with a second driver, in a wrong-way head-on crash on I-65 Sunday morning. Indiana State Police investigated near Crown Point in Lake County.
Anna Warner of Beaverville was the driver of a Kia travelling the wrong-way from exit ramp 231. Police report her car struck a Corvette headed southbound on the interstate. That driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Corvette escaped serious injuries.
State Police report a 911 caller alerted authorities of a vehicle that entered I-65 from the wrong ramp at U.S. 231. Approximately one minute later, OnStar reported a crash involving a Corvette. Troopers and Crown Point fire personnel arrived at the scene to find the Kia was northbound in the southbound lanes traveling in the center lane. The Kia struck the Corvette head on. The Corvette was traveling southbound in the center lane. The inside lane (3rd lane) was closed at the time of the crash with orange traffic barrels for construction purposes.
The Lake County Coroner pronounced the Corvette driver dead. Anna Warner died at Franciscan Health Hospital in Crown Point.
The crash, which occurred at about 1:30 AM. closed the southbound lanes of I-65 for approximately 7 hours. All lanes reopened at 8:30 a.m.
