State Representative Tom Bennett is stepping down as chairman of the Ford County Republican Central Committee. The Gibson City resident cites demands of the job and his busy schedule in Springfield as his reason for giving the leadership post.

\Ford County’s 21 Republican precinct committeemen will meet to select Bennett’s replacement.

The person elected would fill the remainder of Bennett’s existing two-year term, through April 2018.

Bennett serves as representative for the 106th District. He is running unopposed in the November 8 general election, to begin his second four-year term as a state representative in January.

Bennett said that although he is vacating his chairman position, he will continue serving as a Ford County Republican precinct committeeman.
