Body found in submerged vehicle in Danville

Divers with the Vermilion County sheriff’s department discovered a vehicle in the water at Lake Vermilion Saturday morning.

Sheriff Pat Hartshorn confirmed there was a woman's body inside.

In a release issued later in the day, Hartshorn said "there does not appear to be any signs of foul play."
The search took place at the Lake Vermilion boat ramp area, on Danville’s north side.

The sheriff said a female called 9-1-1 saying a friend of hers called her to say he had driven into Lake Vermilion and was unable to get out of her car. The sheriff said it certainly appeared the victim had tried to call for help.
The car was pulled from the water and the victim was found inside.

Coroner Jane McFadden is expected to release the woman’s name later today (Monday).
