Tightened security was in place at schools in the Central Unit 4 School District in Iroquois County as an investigation continues into a reported bomb threat. Law enforcement authorities do not believe the threat is credible at this point, but the investigation continues, according to Superintendent Tonya Evans.

Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police and Illinois State Police are investigating a threatening email discovered Monday by one of the district principals.

A.letter directed to parents and guardians about the incident makes it clear, the name on the mail was not that of any Unit #4 students. The threatening email had been diverted to the “spam” folder by the school’s computer system Saturday night. The email indicated a bomb threat for March 8, 2017.

The Superintendent’s letter stated no explosives have been found by the sheriff’s department. Police advise there is no imminent threat and the school district continues its normal routine.

Sup’t Evans said student and staff safety is the top priority and any such threat is taken seriously. Increased security presence is in place at the district schools with assistance from the Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police.
