Borgers Family says ‘thank you’ to heroes who saved a life

The Borgers family in Milford knows all too well how important first responders are in a given emergency situation. 17-year-old Carter Borgers was most likely saved following a two-car collision last month in rural Milford.  Two passerbys stopped to assist the drivers involved in the accident.  The volunteers provided life-saving efforts for both drivers, who were air-lifted to separate hospitals.

The help provided by Jack Clifton and Phil Schiewe while waiting for Fire and Ambulance personnel to arrive proved a life-saving effort. And last Saturday (3/18) at the Milford Fire Station, Jack Clifton and Phil Schiewe were recognized as heroes.

Clifton administered emergency, life-saving first aid to the Borgers teen while Milford Fire & Ambulance was enroute. Schiewe and Clifton also found the means to transfer water using a shoe to douse an engine fire in the vehicle.
Schiewe was on his way home to Buckley when he saw how serious the accident was. He understands just how important first-responders are in any situation.

Jack Clifton is a 45+year veteran of the Tilton Fire Department in Vermilion County. He too was on his way home from his professional fire department job in the Chicago suburbs when he happened to come across the accident. Clifton said he knew just how serious it was just by the position of the vehicles involved.

Both Clifton and Schiewe are hailed as heroes who saved Carter Borgers life that day. The teen has since recovered. He and his family can’t say enuf good about the outstanding where-with-all effort of Jack Clifton and Phil Schiewe.
