Brook house fire does $50,000 damage

No injuries to report, but a a chimney fire in a wood burning fireplace is to blame for an overnight house fire in rural Morocco, Indiana. Brook-Iroquois Township fire chief Kyle Conrad says firefighters received the call shortly before 1 am for a fire at the Mindy Chamberlain residence at 5047 W 600S in rural Washington township.

Firefighters discovered the fire had spread to the wall around the fireplace and had breached the chimney. Eleven Brook firefighters were assisted by 9 other firefighters from Morocco and Kentland fire departments. Other assistance was provided by the Newton County EMS and Newton County REMC. Firefighters cleared the scene around 3 am. Conrad estimates the loss at around $50,000.
