A referendum question facing Village of Buckley voters (Tuesday) was approved, allowing for a construction project to install a sanitary sewer system within the village. The referenda question in Iroquois County gained a favorable vote --- 70% to 30%. Mayor Scott Shockley was pushing for this project for some 10 years and says paying for the $4.1 million dollar project will be over a 30-year period. Currently, property owners have no sewer system. That's caused issues. This was a $6.7 million project, but grants and a forgiveness loan from the Illinois EPA greatly reduced the burden on Buckley taxpayers. Payment will be around $134,000 per year. The vote in the Primary Election was 107 in favor, 46 against.
