The fight against cancer continues this weekend with the Annual Caleb’s Prayer Foundation Benefit Car Show. The event is Sunday, May 18 in Bradley. Phillips Chevrolet is the host site. The annual event raises $15,000 per year – the funds supporting families in need as they battle cancer-related expenses.
Caleb’s Prayer Foundation is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization formed in memory of Caleb Hoggins, who lost his battle with cancer at 15. The foundation states the mission is to provide financial assistance to families in Kankakee and Iroquois counties that are coping with the effects of cancer. Since its inception, Caleb’s Prayer Foundation has helped families with over $104,000 for groceries, transportation, utilities, housing costs, insurance, medical bills, and funeral expenses.
The Caleb’s Prayer Foundation’s 15th Annual Benefit Car Show attracts well over 150 vehicles at the event and hundreds of spectators admiring them. With the help of sponsors, the benefit car show has raised $105,535 for the foundation.
Registration for the show is $20 and will begin at 9 a.m. Judging will begin at 11 a.m., with trophies being awarded at 3 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 vehicles in each of 18 classes. This event is FREE to the public, supports a great cause, and promises fun for everyone. The foundation says 100% of the profit goes to local families. In the event of rain, the show will be held on Sunday, June 1st.
Caleb survived a very rare form of leukemia in 2001 but was again diagnosed with cancer 11 years later. He went to Heaven on May 12, 2014. As a freshman at Central High School in Clifton, he dreamed of becoming a chef. Caleb was known for his infectious laughter and his loving and caring personality. He was an inspiration to all who knew him – a hero !
