Car Thief lands in Jerome Combs Detention Center

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police apprehended A serial car burglar was apprehended after leading police on a chase then crashing into a school bus.  21-year-old Zachary Palmer of Gardner was jailed in Kankakee County earlier this (Tuesday) morning.  Palmer was located in Coal City but fled from authorites in a truck thru Diamond and Braidwood.  He allegedly rammed into a Grundy County Sheriff squad car in Custer Park.  He continued into Kankakee County before crashing into school bus at Route 113 and Warner Bridge Road. 

No children were on the bus at the time.  Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley said  Palmer's mother, 38-year-old Shannon Palmer, was a passenger in the stolen vehicle.  She was  transported to a Kankakee area hospital for medical treatment.  Police said Zachary Palmer, who was recently paroled in early June after serving time for vehicle theft is accused of stealing three vehicles within a 24-hour period.  He's jailed in Kankakee facing charges of 3 counts of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Felony Theft, a warrant out of Iroquois County and an Illinois Dept. of Corrections Warrant.

Additional charges are pending.  Palmer is suspected of numerous Motor Vehicle Thefts throughout Kankakee, Will and Grundy Counties in the last several weeks.  And records show in 2018, Palmer also stole three vehicles in the Grundy/Livingston County area.
