Car-train collision in Rensselaer

Emergency responders answered a call to a car-train collision Sunday night in Rensselaer, Indiana. Details are sketchy. One person was airlifted to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn (IL).

Police said a male driver was northbound on N. Jefferson Street about 9 pm when the Hoosier State line passenger train hit the passenger side of the car as it was slowing for a stop sign.

No report of injuries on the train. The crossing was re-opened by 10:30 pm.
