Carbon Monoxide Safety Reminders

Carbon Monoxide Safety Tips as the Fall and Winter seasons approach. Furnace and other heating devices have kicked in… — Officials are reminding residents to take precautions against carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas that can be deadly. Generators, grills, camp stoves, and other fuel-burning devices should never be used inside homes, garages, basements or other enclosed spaces. These units should be placed outdoors and away from doors, windows and vents to prevent gas from entering living areas. The main risks when using alternate power or heating sources include carbon monoxide poisoning, fire and electric shock.

Authorities urge residents to install carbon monoxide alarms on every level of the home and near sleeping areas. If an alarm sounds, move immediately to fresh air outdoors or near an open window or door, and call for help. Remain in the fresh air until emergency responders arrive.
