Another proposed split in a Ford-Iroquois county government arrangement is on the table.

The Iroquois County Board Chairman is pushing to withdraw from the Ford-Iroquois Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). It's a dual-county arrangement to plan for emergencies.

The two-county set-up was originally made to pool resources of two less-populated counties to better prepare for emergencies, especially hazardous material situations.

The two-County LEPC pulled personnel together to make the most of two rural counties with limited resources.

The LEPC membership includes various emergency responders...police and fire, hospital and health department employees, industrial leaders and even the public input is welcome.

Iroquois County Board Chairman Rod Copas believes Iroquois County can manage better on its own.

History has shown county government has been lax and neglected to fulfill its obligation toward emergency management. Thus, the two-county approach was implemented to pool resources and urge participation from elected officials.
