The Vermilion County Coroner's Office is working with Illinois State Police investigating a truck-pedestrian accident that killed a pedestrian. The victim has now been identified as 29-year-old Matthew Wheeler of Champaign.

Coroner Peggy Johnson said the accident happened (Thurs) night just after 9 pm. An autopsy was scheduled.

State Police say their investigation found the pedestrian was walking in the roadway along Illinois Route 49, a half-mile north of Vermilion County 2000 North Road when he was struck. The location was northwest of Fithian.

Police report the pick-up truck was driven by a 35-year-old woman. No charges were filed against the driver of the truck.
