Chances of hitting deer while driving doubles in fall in Illinois

The fall season is expected to bring the highest number of vehicular deer collision in Illinois.

State Farm Insurance recently released its sixteenth annual deer collision report and ranked Illinois right in the middle of states for the number of deer accidents.

Bill Ecker, a State Farm Insurance Agent in Marion, said that the chances of hitting a deer double in the fall.

Ecker teaches drivers to brake and not swerve to try to miss an animal because insurance coverage differs depending on what is hit.

The chances of hitting a deer in Illinois is one in two hundred. West Virginia ranked highest with a one in forty-six chance. Hawaii ranked dead last with one in 6,379 drivers involved in a deer-related collision.
