Chebanse teen in fatal hit-and-run, facing lesser charges

The 16-year-old Chebanse boy arrested last week for a hit-and-run accident that killed a man is now facing lesser charges.

The juvenile boy, released to his parents, is on home detention. The earlier reckless homicide charge has been reduced to leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

The State's Attorney Office may file additional charges.
36-year-old Aaron Sorensen was killed when he was hit while skateboarding along Route 45, south of Kankakee. He died at Presence St. Mary's Hospital.

A tip led police to the boy, who told investigators he hit something but thought it was a sign.
