A traffic stop in rural Ashkum by Iroquois County Sheriff's Police finds 35-year-old Derek Thornton jailed in Watseka.  Deputies found a suitcase in Thornton's vehicle.  The suitcase contained about a pound and a-half of cannabis, LSD, and more than $4,300 in cash.  A bond hearing is likely today in Circuit Court.

Sheriff's Police were on patrol when a vehicle driven by Thornton failed to stop at a stop sign.  The car continued through Ashkum, suspiciously and at dangerous speeds before the car was stopped in Gilman on Route 24 at 600 E Road.  A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the drugs.  Thornton was also driving  without a valid license.
