Church bus stranded in snow, 11 people rescued

Eleven people onboard a church bus bound for Chicago were rescued in Iroquois County after the bus became stuck in a ditch.

The Crescent-Iroquois Fire Protection District located the bus after those onboard huddled to stay warm for about 90 minutes Saturday night. The call for help came in about 8:30 pm but those on the bus could only say they were somewhere south of Crescent City.

The group of five adults and six children spent time warming up at the Crescent City Community Center, waiting for friends to arrive to bring them back home. The bus was on its way from Danville to Chicago.

Fire and ambulance personnel had to fight the winter elements to locate the bus. Blowing and drifting snow was the main problem.

Meanwhile --- Snow plows in Iroquois County are only assisting emergency vehicles at this time. Motorists are urged to stay home. Roads are impassable and dangerous.
Some area schools are announcing they will be closed again Tuesday.
