A traffic crash in Kankakee County Thursday morning split a car in half, but the driver escaped with what police said were not life-threatening injuries. Boyd Roof of Clifton managed to escape more serious injuries, or even death, when his car hit a pole and was split in half.
Illinois State Police investigated on Route 115 at 1300 S Road. Roof was air-lifted to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.
Limestone Fire extricated Roof from the wreckage. Alcohol and excessive speed were not factors, according to the police report.
Roof was northbound just before 3 am when his car left the road and went into the west ditch. The car traveled about 100 yards before hitting the utility pole.
