Clifton Mayor resigns; relocating to Florida

The Village of Clifton Mayor Jan Meier O'Connell resigned this past week. Her husband accepted a job opportunity in Florida. And the family will be moving there.

The resignation is effective Friday, January 17th.

O'Connell has served the village for 18 years, first as a trustee, then as mayor. She told the Clifton Advocate "she's grateful to the village residents for giving her the opportunity to serve on the board."

O'Connell said she's seen a lot of progress during her 18 years and she knows there's more to come.

Long-time village trustee Bob Berns is likely to succeed O'Connell. He has a choice to resign as trustee or serve as interim-mayor. Berns can either serve as Mayor ProTem or interim mayor until the next municipal election in the Spring of 2015
