Collins sentenced to 42-months in prison

URBANA -- Former Kankakee Valley Park District executive director Roy Collins was handed a 42-month federal prison sentence today (Friday). He’s ordered to report to the Bureau of Prisons February 26th.

The 48-year-old Collins will serve time on mail and wire fraud charges.

Chief Judge James Shadid also ordered Collins to serve two years probation at the conclusion of the sentence. Collins will be ordered to make restitution back to the park district. That amount is yet to be determined.

Prosecutors claimed Collins used profits from the once-popular BBQ Fest for maintenance at his private home. The charges said he used park district personnel and equipment to do the private work and used a park district credit card for improper purchases.

Prosecutors were asking for a 4-year prison term and 3-years probation and restitution.
