Educating oneself about the pros and cons of a school consolidation is what school officials suggest to voters.  As Watseka and Crescent City voters get ready for a referendum question on the April ballot, the Unit Nine school board in Watseka hosted a community meeting Wednesday. About 55 people attended at the Unit Nine Office.

The proposed consolidation of Unit #9 and Crescent-Iroquois District #249 has both school boards and community folks pushing the need to know how it all works.  Many decisions will be made by a new school board, elected by both districts.  If the referendum  should fail, the existing boards of education remain in control of their respective districts.  A successful referendum requires approval by voters in both districts. 

A feasability study attempts to explain issues, including student impact, staffing levels, building facilities, proposed tax rates and transportation expenses.
