Community Warming Centers welcome during extreme cold

Local community leaders are encouraged to open governmental buildings to accommodate the public who may need relief from the cold temperatures.

Libraries, park districts, and school buildings may also be available to escape from the cold weather. Church leaders are also asked to open their doors for warming centers.

The City of Kankakee has the Public Safety Center, the City library, and either of the city hospitals are available as warming centers too.

River Valley Metro buses are also available. Fixed-routes offer free rides today and tonight with the frigid temps.
