Polls are open today until 7 pm.  It's Consolidated Election Day. The local election is an opportunity for citizens to have a say in their local government.  Although turnout is usually low, officials hope citizens will take time to let their voices be heard.

Contested races are popular on today’s ballots in Iroquois County. Mayoral races appear for voters to choose in Ashkum, Clifton, Danforth and Donovan. Loda offers four names to choose from, Sheldon has a 3-way race for the Village President. Watseka also has a two-man mayoral contest.

There’s aldermanic and trustee races in several cities/towns. Gibson City and Piper City also have Mayoral contests. Kankakee, Bourbonnais, and Manteno have contested races for their respective city leaders. Hoopeston has a contest for Mayor.

Township Highway Commissioners races are on several ballots, including Chebanse, Martinton and Onarga. There’s a Highway Commissioner race in Stockland Township.
School Boards also offer contested races.
