Coroner ID's driver involved in triple-fatal crash near Rankin

Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden reported (Thursday) that the driver of a stolen car involved with a June 27th accident thatn left three people dead is now identifgied as 43-year-old Moises Concepcion-Ramos of Rantoul. He was killed along with two Paxton teenagers.  The Coroner used DNA to positively identify Ramos. 

The accident occurred on Illinois 49 at 3550 North Road, at Rankin, and claimed the lives of 19-year-old Joseph Stallone and his girlfriend,17-year-old Keegynn Martinek. The couple were in a jeep that was T-boned by the stolen vehicle.

Autopsies have been completed, and results are pending, McFadden said.

Illinois State Police had reported the stolen auto driven by Concepcion-Ramos was driven eastbound on Vermilion County Road 3550 North near Illinois 49 just before 7:30 pm. The driver of the stolen car ran through a stop sign and hit the jeep on the driver’s side.  Rantoul police had begun pursuing the car before the accident after it was spotted about 7:10 p.m.  Out of concern for safety, the officer stopped pursing the car near the intersection of Champaign County roads 1900 East and 3100 North, authorities said.

The driver of the Camry was said to have been driving at about 100 mph and ignoring the squad car’s lights and sirens.
