Veteran Sheriff Captain Shannon Cothran emerged the winner in a 3-person contest for the Republican nomination for sheriff in Newton County. Tuesday’s results show Cothran earned 47% of the vote, defeating Mike Rowe and Vince Lowe…each with 26%.

Cothran grabbed 1109 votes, Rowe 621 and Lowe 615.

Cothran will be the GOP candidate with no known Democratic challenger in November.
