County road crews hampered in efforts to keep roadways clear of ice/snow

County Highway Departments are doing what they can to keep roads clear of ice and snow, but without much sunshine, there’s a limit at what can be done. Many routes are still snow-packed and there’s more snow coming. Up to 4-5 inches could accumulate beginning today.

Temps have been so cold it’s difficult to get much relief. Most of the time, salt and other products help. But not this week.

Maintenance crews say "It takes a whole lot of sunshine for any calcium chloride to work on the roadways. “

There may be positive news on the way soon. Despite below-zero lows expected throughout the three-day weekend, the forecast calls for at least partly a sunny sky starting Saturday.
