COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters recommended for anyone 18 and Older

The Illinois Department of Public Health is recommending that everyone age 18 and older get a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.

The guidance comes from the Food and Drug Administration. The booster is recommended six months after the second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine and two months after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.  The idea of the booster shot is to bolster immunity that is thought to decline over time and to help combat variants of COVID-19 such as the Delta variant.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that for the first two doses of vaccine people should get the same one, but can mix and match for the booster shot.
