Crescent City: Iroquois County Fair July 20-25

Many of the usual activities and 4-H events will highlight the annual Iroquois County 4-H & Agricultural Fair, which runs from Wednesday, July 20, through Monday, July 25, at the fairgrounds north of Crescent City.


The fair’s volunteers are prepping the grounds for the 5-day run.


But the fairground is closed today (Monday) due to all the rain Sunday night. Parts of Iroquois County received more than 5 and six inches of rain, leaving roads and ditches flooded.


The queen pageant at 8 pm Wednesday has seven young ladies vying for the crown. (The pageant can be heard on 94.1 WGFA).
The demolition derby at 7:30 pm Thursday, the talent show at 6:30 pm Friday, the C-Bar Rodeo at 7:30 pm Friday, the “Figure 8” demolition derby at 7:30 pm Saturdayand tractor and truck pulls at 12:30 and 6 pm Sunday, are among the list of usual events at the fair.
There is a $5 admission fee for each of the events.


Also, Rinestone Roper will hold free performances at 2, 5 and 7 pm each day from Thursday through Saturday. Additional free shows are offered at 5 and 7 pm Wednesday and 2 and 5 pm Sunday.


Sunday includes the all-faith church service at the 4-H Center featuring music by A Natural High at 9:30 am.


Also, a horse and pony show is scheduled at 9 am Thursday. A 4-H dog obedience/conformation show is also set for 2 pm Thursday.
Friday’s activities include a draft horse show and a 4-H and junior horse and pony show, both at 9 am, followed by another draft horses show at noon. On both Saturday and Sunday, there will be a Western horse and pony show at 9 am. The master showman contest is set for 5 pm Sunday.


The 4-H Clothing Revue is at 1:30 pm Friday.Ronald McDonald will make an appearance at 1 pm Saturday. Saturday’s food auction will be held at 3 pm in the 4-H Center.


The Ford-Iroquois Pork Producers will hold a cookoff contest Sunday from 1 to 4 pm. At the same time, a quilt show will be held in the 4-H Center.


The livestock sale will be held at 1:30 pm Monday.


The carnival will offer armband specials on Wednesday, allowing unlimited rides for a fee of $22 from 6 to 10 p.m. Also, Friday will be “Buck Night,” with rides costing $1 each. On Saturday, between 1 and 5 p.m., all rides are offered for one ticket or fewer. On Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m., there will be another armband special of $22.


Gate admission costs $7.50 per person for those age 6 and above. Special carload prices are offered from 7 a.m. to noon Thursday and Friday. Season passes cost $15.
