A Saturday morning crash on I-57 in Ford County killed a Crescent City man.  38-year-old Ryan Rippe of Crescent City was southbound behind a truck-tractor semi-trailer driven by 33-year-old Brandon Cole of Macon, Georgia. Police report the Rippe vehicle failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of the semi-trailer. It then left the road, passed through the center median and came to rest in the northbound left lane. The semi stopped along the southbound shoulder.

Rippe was pronounced deceased on scene by the Ford County coroner. Cole was uninjured.

Illinois State Police report the accident happened just before 7:30 am in the southbound lanes of Interstate 57.
