Crop Production Services gets ZBA approval for expansion

The Iroquois County Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) Tuesday gave its approval for construction of an anhydrous ammonia plant in Sheldon Township.

The proposed facility would be at 2800 E, just south of U-S Route 24. The layout would cover 10 acres, allowing for future expansion. The project cost is $2.5 million.

The project’s likely to increase employment from 12 to 16 people. Part-time positions are likely too.

The conditional-use permit will allow for more anhydrous storage, a workshop, warehouse and office space.

Immediate neighbors voiced concern. An increase in traffic, ammonia fumes, the effects on cattle and effects on property values were all documented.
