Dr. Stephen Nacco is the choice to lead Danville Area Community College. He was announced and introduced Wednesday as the new president of DACC. Nacco will succeed the retiring Alice Marie Jacobs.
Nacco is a New Jersey man. He has spent 30-plus years in higher education, half in administration. He said he's eager and ready to take the reins of Danville Area Community College later this summer.
Nacco will be on the job by mid-August. He'll work with Dr. Jacobs during a transition period.
Trustees unanimously approved appointing him as the seventh president in DACC's 70-year history.
Board Chairman Dave Harby said the details of his contract are still being worked out, but he expects trustees to vote on it at their July meeting.
Nacco, who began his career as an English instructor and is currently the vice president of administrative services for Union County College, N.J., was selected from among three finalists. There were 44 original applicants.
The others were Melissa Denardo, the provost/vice president of learning and student success at the Community College of Beavery County, in Beaver, Penn.; and Douglas Brauer, the vice president for economic development and innovative workforce solutions for Richland Community College in Decatur.
Harby said all three finalists had "outstanding" credentials.
