DACC marks 70th Anniversary

Danville Area Community College is honoring four people who are credited with playing a significant role in the history, development, and continued success of the college.

Richard Cheney, Gladys Davis, Tom Conron, Jr., and Robert Griggs will be honored during a Founders' Day celebration Friday. A 1 pm program is scheduled at the DACC Bremer Conference Center.

>> Gladys Davis was a Danville Junior College student in the 1950s. She became the first female minority faculty member of DJC.

>>Tom Conron Jr. was a founding member of the DJC Board of Trustees in 1966. He has also served on the board of the DACC Foundation.

>>Robert Griggs was hired in July of 1965 as the first Dean of Vocational Technical Education. He retired in May of 1987.

>>Richard Cheney was one of the first four full-time faculty members hired in 1966. He became the Audio Visual Director and was a cross country coach before being elected to the DACC Board of Trustees in 1993. He still serves on that board.
