Danville Police are investigating a Saturday morning shooting death. Details were being pieced together over the weekend, but Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson has released the identity of a man who died in the shooting on the city’s northeast side.

26-year-old Jamaal Sampson of Danville was pronounced dead just before 6 am at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center. An autopsy performed (Saturday) revealed Sampson died as the result of a single gunshot wound.

Police were called to a residence in the 1500 block of East Fairchild around 5 am. The victim was found lying on the ground.

No one was in custody Saturday night and no other persons reported being hurt.
