Blue-light specials in Danville are coming to an end. The Big K-Mart Store is closing its doors.
Sears Holdings Corp. announced Thursday that the Kmart store on N. Vermilion Street in Danville is one of 68 Kmart stores and 10 Sears stores around the country that will be closing later this summer.
The Danville joins K-Mart in Bradley closing up. The liquidation sale at the Bradley site, just off Route 50 continues.
The company had previously said in February it planned to accelerate the closing of unprofitable stores.
By closing the stores in Danville and elsewhere, the company hopes to generate what it called a "meaningful level" of cash from the sale or sublease of real estate and from the liquidation of store inventories.
Danville's closing of Kmart could start its liquidation sales May 12, according to a report.
