Opening statements were presented Wednesday in the murder trial of an accused cop killer.  The trial of Darius Sullivan continues today for the Bourbonnais man charged in the deadly 2021 shooting of a police sergeant in Bradley, Illinois.  Sullivan is accused of shooting Sergeant Marlene Rittmanic to death and wounding Officer Tyler Bailey at a Comfort Inn in December 2021. Sullivan and Xandria Harris were both charged with murder. Harris will be tried separately.

Circuit Judge Kathy Bradshaw-Elliott is hearing the case.  A defense motion seeking a change of venue based on pretrial publicity was denied.
