Day meetings vs Night meetings in Iroquois County

-County Board member wants public view-

It's about open government – giving the people the opportunity to have a voice and seek office.

That's the position of Iroquois County board member Vince LaMie. The Woodworth resident is appealing to the public to express their views on the subject of 'night meetings" rather than the long-standing tradition of 9 am meetings conducted by the County Board on the second Tuesday of each month.

LaMie says if this issue is going anywhere, "there needs to be a show of public involvement."

LaMie invites the public to a Town Hall meeting Monday (March 9). It's at 7 pm in the Board Room at the Administrative Center in Watseka.

So far, LaMie has little support from board members. Some opponents have said 'they want to be tending to family matters in the evenings,' which raises eyebrows from many others who point out all other government bodies conduct their business in the evenings.

A recent 16-1 vote by the County Board's Policy & Procedure committee was instead in favor leaving meetings at 9 am on the second Tuesday.

LaMie would hope the Town Hall meeting brings support for 'night meetings." LaMie welcomes input at his email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or by calling him 815-471-2769.
