Will County Sheriff’s Police and railroad officials are investigating a fatal car-train collision. It happened Thursday afternoon near the Peotone-Manteno line. A southbound Amtrak hit a car around 5 pm.

30-year-old Robert O’Connell of Demotte (IN) died at Amita St. Mary’s Hospital. He had to be extricated from the wreckage by fire personnel. Sheriff’s police said none of the 143 passengers onboard the Amtrak train were injured. Railroad police personnel are also investigating.
