Drought conditions declared in central-Illinois

Central Illinois is now declared a drought area. The U.S. Drought Monitor shows much of the listening-area is experiencing abnormally dry conditions.

Parched farm fields and brown lawns are obvious. And after several weeks of dry conditions, April and May finds several areas at less than half the normal rainfall amounts.
Anytime the drought monitor reaches the ‘moderate’ level, water levels are low, crop damage becomes evident, waterways are low, water restrictions are put in place, and a fire risk becomes apparent.

The City of Gibson City has water restrictions in place. Watering of lawns is prohibited.
