The Vermilion County Coroner has identified a man who drowned Sunday night in the Vermilion River. Coroner Jane McFadden said 27-year-old Dustan J. Haase of Westville was in a group of kayakers who ran into trouble at a log jam on the river near Oakwood. Sheriff’s Police reported two people were rescued on top of the log jam. The victim, however, went underwater and did not resurface. The victim’s body was recovered Monday morning.
Police said the drowning occurred near where some work is being done on the Interstate 74 bridge over the river.
