Drunken dispute leads to killing, Demotte man jailed

21-year-old Cameron Sifrer of Demotte, Indiana man is jailed in Jasper County, IN after, what detectives say, was a weekend drunken dispute that left another man dead.

Sifrer is being held without bond on a charge of murder.

Dead is 23-year-old Derek Bobby, found dead at a home in rural Jasper County.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Police report a woman called dispatchers to report that her brother was found dead at a home on County Road 1100 North in rural Jasper County near the town of Demotte. Police received the call around 11:40 Friday morning.

Investigators found Derek Bobby dead in a bedroom. He had been dead for several hours, having suffered head trauma. Detectives learned the identity of a possible suspect who had been at the residence during the time of Bobby’s death.

The sheriff’s office said interviews and further investigation led to the Sunday arrest of Sifrer at a Newton County home. Investigators say Sifrer confessed to killing the victim after the two had “partied together” and a verbal dispute ended in violence.

An autopsy is planned today (Monday). The Jasper County Coroner’s Office and sheriff’s department say the death investigation is ongoing. Jasper and Newton County sheriff’s police departments were involved in the investigation.
