The possibility of a political race for state representative in the 70th District next year could unfold today (Tuesday).

Former state rep Lisa Dugan is expected to announce her bid for the office she held for 10 years. An announcement is expected in Kankakee. A news conference is scheduled for noon at Kankakee Community College.

The office is now held by Republican Lindsay Parkhurst, who unseated Democrat Kate Cloonen two years ago.

Parkhurst, R-Kankakee, was elected the 79th District state representative in 2016 and is completing her first full year on the job. Should Dugan announce, and if both get thru any primary challenge in March, the two would meet in November 2018.
