A crash near Gardner Sunday night seriously injuring a Gardner tow truck operator. Now, a 53-year-old Dwight man faces a violation of Illinois’ Scott Law.
Cleveland Powell was traveling in the right lane of Interstate 55 near Gardner when he’s alleged to have failed to yield to the emergency vehicle. State Police report the tow truck was stationary on the right shoulder, with the emergency lights activated.
Powell’s vehicle crossed onto the right shoulder, striking the tow truck and its driver who was working outside the vehicle.
Powell and the two passengers of the tow truck reported to have no injuries at the scene. 33-year-old Ryan McGrail of Gardner, who was the driver of the tow truck, was transported to Morris Hospital and later airlifted to Loyola Hospital with serious injuries.
Powell was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage and violating Scott’s Law.
