The second Tuesday of the month is test day for county and state emergency sirens. However, several Illinois counties canceled today 's (Tuesday) emergency sirens test due to the threat of severe weather in the balance. Emergency sirens are usually tested on every first Tuesday (just past 10 am). Pending thunderstorms and possible tornadoes in the forecast, some counties called off the tests to avoid confusion or mis-informed citizens.
Storms are expected to fire up Tuesday afternoon into the overnight. The cleanup continues in many parts of Illinois from at least 22 tornadoes that hit the state Friday.
