Essex man dies in crash, another man arrested

One man is dead and another man jailed after a Christmas Eve crash in Grundy County. It happened on Route 53 Monday.

32-year-old C. J. Loveland of Essex was pronounced dead at Morris Community Hospital Monday morning. Police said he was a passenger in the vehicle and was ejected in the crash. The car slammed into a utility pole after leaving the road.

The driver was identified as 36-year-old Jonathon Loveland of Braidwood. He’s been arrested after fleeing the scene on foot.

Grundy County Sheriff’s Police report Jonathan Loveland was traveling northbound on Route 53 at a high rate of speed. He failed to negotiate a curve and lost control, striking the pole.

The Grundy County Emergency Management Agency, Braceville, Gardner, South Wilmington, Coal City and Wilmington Fire Departments assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

 

Alvin man injured in Vermilion County wreck --

23-year-old John Shoaf of Alvin was treated at Carle Hospital in Urbana after a car crash in Danville.  Police said he was northbound on Logan Avenue Monday when he left the road and hit a tree.  The accident happened at 4:45 am.    Police said he failed to stop at a stop sign.
