A new mayor was named by the people of Fairbury during the Consolidated General Election Tuesday. David Slagel, who currently serves as an alderman on the Fairbury City Council and helped form the Fairbury Improvement Group, will be sworn in during the city council meeting in May.
Problems with the Livingston County election results website made tracking results difficult, but unofficial results showed that more than 900 voters turned out to the polls in Fairbury.
Slagel was an overwhelming leader having received 501 votes (52.46 percent), Seth Welch received 210 votes (21.99 percent), Kaci Zimmerman received 193 votes (20.21 percent) and Brian Meints received 51 votes.
