Farm Progress Show expected to be bigger than ever

DECATUR -- Record setting numbers are expected for this year's Farm Progress Show. The Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau bases the increase on the number of booked hotel rooms.

In 2009, almost 9765 rooms within 50 miles of town were taken for the show. That added up to $2,390,600.

In 2011, it jumped to 10,200 rooms for a total $2,448,000. The DACVB gets those totals by multiplying the rooms by $240 per night. Already this year, hotels in Decatur, Bloomington and Champaign are sold out.

National farm broadcaster Ken Root continues his coverage of the Farm Progress Show during the mid-day show on 94.1 FM, WGFA. The daily show airs at 12:30 pm.
