Fatal crash at Iroquois/Kankakee County line Monday

A St. Louis, MO truck driver was killed early Monday when two semi-tractor trailers collided at the Iroquois/Kankakee County line. The crash happened around 3 am on Route 45 at Iroquois County 3400 N. The accident closed down Route 45/52 for the investigation.

Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum identified 24-year-old Jeramiah Tankins as the driver of an eastbound rig that ran a stop sign on 3400. The victim’s semi hit a southbound semi, forcing both rigs to leave the roadway and overturn in a farm field.

Jeremiah Tankins was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was not seriously hurt, but treated at an area hospital. Several emergency vehicles were at the scene. State Police investigated the crash. The route was closed until about 9 am.
