Fatal crash: woman dead, child critical, one person still missing

White County, Indiana Sheriff's Police say a woman has died from her injuries and a child was still listed in critical condition Monday following a crash Sunday evening.

48-year-old Deborah Barkas of Monticello and a female child had to be were extricated from the vehicle. Both were taken to IU Health White Memorial Hospital.

Barkas was pronounced dead at the hospital. The child was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
The White County Sheriff's Office reports just before 8 pm a car traveling east on County Road 800 North collided with a truck that was heading south on State Road 16.

Deputies said the driver of the truck was not on scene and has yet to be located. White County Sheriff's deputies searched the area Sunday night with K-9 units.
